Carter Twins & James Otto... bring signs!

Posted at 01:09 PM on February 04, 2010 Comments comments (0)

Zach and Josh are going to be playing alongside James Otto this Friday, February 5th, at Bay City's Westown.

Check out this AWESOME interview that the Carter Twins did with MLive.com:

Bring a sign.

That’s the invitation Zach Carter extends to those attending Friday’s James Otto-Carter Twins concert.

“We always like to say to the fans, make signs,” he said. “We love to look out in the audience and see the signs. We love to see the creativity on the signs.”

With their first album set for release this summer, the 19-year-old brothers have been racking up Internet hits, including “Heart Like Memphis” and “So What.”

“Heart Like Memphis,” the twins’ first single, made them the fastest-rising new country act on the digital charts.

“Nowadays you kind of have to do the Internet,” brother Josh said. “It’s just a big way to market yourself, get your name out there.”

The two say they are enjoying their time on the road, touring with the likes of Otto and country legend Alan Jackson.

“We’ve been blessed to be able to be out on the road with Alan Jackson,” Zach said. “It’s really fun right now. It’s really, really busy. It’s a totally different life, really fast-paced. We love doing it and we wouldn’t want to do anything else.”

Not bad for a duo that moved to Nashville just over a year ago. Under the tutorship of CMT and Meteor 17, the two spent last summer working with some of the best songwriters in town.

“It’s all been kind of crazy,” Zach said. “We moved to Nashville a year and a half ago, straight from high school. It’s all been a whirlwind since we graduated.”

Writing is something the two have been doing since they were children.

“I started piano lessons trying to learn how to read music,” Zach said. His teacher was a Romanian woman named Vera. “She was the first person to help me read music. She would get mad when I didn’t do the homework, but she liked writing songs with me.”

For Josh, it was his mom’s guitar that piqued his interest.

“When I was 13 I picked up her guitar,” he said. “I asked her if girls like this, if so I want to play. I asked her to teach me ‘Stairway to Heaven.’ I learned that one and kept wanting to learn more.”

When they aren’t performing, the two head off in different directions. Josh plays golf, while Zach likes to hang out with his college friends.

“I pretend I’m a normal college kid like them,” Zach said. “I see movies, go out to dinner.”

The whole interview is here!
